About Ethiopian Gera Coffee & Its Origin
Gera coffee originates from the Gera Estate in the Djimma zone of the Oromia region in western Ethiopia, one of the country’s most respected high altitude coffee growing areas. The estate was established in 2008 by Tracon and spans more than 1,000 hectares of dedicated coffee farmland.
Gera coffee is grown at elevations between 1,900 and 2,200 meters above sea level, where cooler temperatures and slower cherry development help preserve natural sugars and enhance flavour complexity. The estate primarily cultivates Ethiopian heirloom varieties and selected JARC cultivars, including 74-110, 74-112, 74-140, and 74-165.
Processing is mainly carried out using anaerobic natural fermentation or traditional natural drying on raised beds. These controlled fermentation methods intensify fruit character, sweetness, and clarity, resulting in Gera’s signature clean and vibrant cup profile.
