Processing & Export Infrastructure

All Bonga coffee supplied through AFAM International DMCC is sourced and exported by AMG Coffee Ethiopia, which operates integrated washing stations, dry mills, and export-quality control systems across Ethiopia. Coffee is sourced from smallholder farmers and cooperative washing stations surrounding the Bonga area and wider Kaffa Zone, with supply also coordinated through ECX-registered channels where applicable. Cleaning, grading, moisture control, and defect sorting are completed at export facilities in Addis Ababa, supported by additional agricultural processing infrastructure in Adama, approximately 100 km from the capital. The export operation supports up to 28,800 metric tons per annum, ensuring dependable bulk supply, lot consistency, and long-term wholesale reliability.

About the Bonga Origin & Coffee Characteristics

Bonga is a historic coffee-growing area located in the Kaffa Zone of southwestern Ethiopia and is closely associated with Ethiopia’s indigenous Arabica heritage. The region features moderate to high elevations, abundant rainfall, fertile soils, and mixed forest cover, creating stable growing conditions across seasons. Unlike higher-acidity or high-definition regions, Bonga coffees are shaped by slower, steady cherry development that favors sweetness and balance over sharp brightness. Coffee farming is largely smallholder-based, often integrated with food crops and shade trees, contributing to uniform maturation and dependable cup profiles. Bonga coffee typically expresses brown sugar sweetness, soft cocoa tones, subtle dried fruit, and low to medium acidity. The mouthfeel is rounded and smooth, making this origin well suited for espresso extraction, milk-based beverages, and blend structures requiring sweetness and body without overpowering intensity.
